Besides the big stuff and the scary stuff, our feathered friends are often overlooked. When you come to Southern Africa however, it is very hard not to notice the diversity and beauty of our birdlife.
If you feel like doing something different and greatly interesting, whether you're an amateur or a twitcher, a birding trip (day trip or overnight trips are possible) could be just the thing for you. Backroads Africa works in partnership with Birding Limpopo, who operates in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Birding Limpopo is a privately owned birding company ideally situated in the heart of the Limpopo province of South Africa in the small town of Hoedspruit next to the world renowned Kruger National Park and Blyde River Canyon, both World Heritage Sites. The owner of Birding Limpopo, Casper Badenhorst, comes from a family of keen nature and outdoor enthusiast and started birding, in the African bush, at the age of 11.
Hoedspruit is the prime location for exploring a staggering variety of Southern African bird species due to its close proximity to five eco-systems: Vast African Savannah, High-altitude Grasslands, Riverine Forests, Afro-montane Forest and Fynbos. Tours are tailor- and custom made and great care is taken to satisfy each birding traveller’s requests with our highly qualified guides.
