The way you experience the wilderness of Southern Africa is a choice. What do you want to get out of it? Do you just want to see the Big Five, or are you looking for something a little bit more special? This 3-night safari could be just the thing for you. Conducted from a small tented bush camp in the middle of a massive private concession in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, this safari offers a choice between guided walks and drives with a professional and personable guide. The emphasis is on understanding rather than just seeing, and experiencing rather than just ticking a few boxes.
Accommodation is provided in the form of Adventure Bow Tents pitched on the ground. Each tent is 2.1m x 2.1m and sleeps 2 persons comfortably on thick camping mattresses. Bedding and towels are provided. The Boma area is comprised of folding camping chairs set up around a fire and a canvas roof and covered dining area are provided in the event of rain.
Communal ablutions are provided in the form of two 3-sided “bucket showers” with heated water and two 3-sided bush toilets, each comprised of a proper toilet seat and enclosure over a pit in ground – in all 4 cases the open side is faced out into the bush to ensure privacy as well as enjoyment of your wonderful surroundings. The water provision includes a 1500 litre steel water trailer and a water heating container for the bucket showers.
Wholesome, basic meals are prepared over the open fire by bush camp staff, enjoyed on folding camp chairs either under the stars around the fire or under the canvas dining area in the event of rain. Teas & coffees are provided. You can bring your own alcohol/soft drinks/juices or you can purchase these items from the selection offered in camp. Please note that alcohol intake is to be limited as the camp is in an unfenced, dangerous game area. No charging facilities for cameras etc. are provided and you must bring sufficient batteries with you.
Each safari group consists of 2-8 people, and has the use of a private game drive vehicle, a guide and a tracker. The itinerary is completely flexible, and will be determined by the guide and guests together, according to the weather and animal movements in the area. Typically bush walks can take up to 5 hours, and game drives averagely last about 3 hours, in the evenings extending into sundowners and a night drive.
